President Jonathan Appoints Peter Obi As SEC Chairman

President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Peter Obi’s appointment was announced on Monday. According to the presidency, his appointment is to take an immediate effect. 

President Jonathan also confirmed the appointment of the Acting Director General, Mounir Gwazo, as the Director General of the Commission. Mr. Gwarzo who has been acting as Director-General of the Commission, was appointed to the Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission as Executive Commissioner in January, 2013.

The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Femi Thomas, was however, not lucky as he was sacked by the president. The presidency also announced the appointment of Olufemi Akingbade as the acting Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the agency.
